Managers are people who are responsible
for organising people and production.
Management systems for quality, health and safety, and environment all
spell out similar skills for putting systems
into work that measure, control, and monitor issues so there is continual
improvement. These skills are common to all management.
This level of production is called "Level 4" in vocational
terms. People at this level should be able to demonstrate the following
job functions:
- Allocate work to others
- Achieve specific results by using
resources effectively
- Carry out policy in defined area of
authority
- Control financial budgets
- Contribute to 'change' programmes
and recruitment
- Develop project plans
- Deal with contractual arrangements
- Identify and implement decisions.

Managers in organisations responsible
for sustainable development find it difficult to know what to DO to
promote sustainable development - other than just add the word "sustainable"
in front of what they are already doing. However, the Sustainable Development
Education Panel (SDEP) produced a useful
SD Guide for Managers in Colleges to follow to promote sustainable
development.
EP@W have 2 learning programmes that enable managers to get to
grips with the multitude of issues they now have to deal with.
HESME was devised in conjunction with the WHO and
Sustainable Food Guide
gives managers and others something to get their teeth into.

and skills fit together.
