Eco-design

Green Chemistry is the design, manufacture, and use of environmentally benign chemical products and processes that prevent pollution and reduce environmental and human health risks.

The Centre for Sustainable Design consider that it is important to "have permission" to be creative.

It is essential that the process is fun. It is important to generate an atmosphere that is supportive.

It is relatively easy to generate ideas, but evaluation and implementation are hard.

Some simple suggestions to achieve eco-design objectives are:

  • Keep in main business

  • Speak to employees

  • Set stable target

  • Don't let profit drive

  • Do not mix measures (US/UK) - not 'apples & pears'

  • Don't wait for proven 100% respective compliance

  • Expect gradual change
