Environmental Management - 2

Managers implement the plans and train all people to be environmentally aware and ensure key people are competent. The required documentation and procedures are established, followed by a method of monitoring the system. This is audited either internally or externally. The results are presented to the top management team for review.

ISO 14001 requires managers to set up a cycle of continual improvement. The cycle starts with a review of the impacts of your organisation on the environment and possible legal implications. It requires that there is an environmental policy that conforms to a set criteria and is publicly available.

The manager examines the personnel and the necessary operational control to implement improved environmental performance. Targets and objectives are set to drive improvements.

EMAS

EMAS differs from ISO14001 by requiring companies to make statements of their achievements public. EMAS is a scheme whereas ISO is a standard.
