IMPACTS

SPRING 2010

Dear Contact, Spring at last!
Carbon Counting We suspect we are not alone at being shell shocked with the "Copenhagen Accord". We kept a "Countdown" which outlines the story of what happened.
However, we are now trying to take stock and would like you to help by taking part in our Copenhagen Capers Survey. We will make a short report to send out to everybody. Carbon Counter

Sustainable Food Guide Sustainable Food Site & Guide. We are still No1 when you google for "sustainable food".
The Rome Food Summit, according to our man there, was not much better than Copenhagen - again no targets nor deadlines set. Keep up to date with events and reports about a wide range of issues.
Our Director, Dr Charlie Clutterbuck, has recently been appointed to the "England Council" of Lantra Sector Skills Council
and had two articles published.
On Sustainable Food Security in Environment Industry Magazine: "We need to produce more food, more sustainably, and while this applies worldwide it is even more crucial to do so in the UK" (p40-43)

The Food Ethics Council's special issue (one off - free) Climate Change: Food and farming after Copenhagen assesses "the effects of climate change on agriculture, and analyses how agriculture affects global warming." Charlie takes part in the Big Question (p24) to encourage investment in 'carbon farming'.
Environmental Practices @ Work There is now a National Occupational Standard called "'Develop an Awareness of Environmental Good Practice" (EM15), that helps translate Environmental Policies into Environmental Practices. Hurrah - that only took 10 years! We will adapt our old Environmental Practice online materials to fit this new NOStandard.
Will companies - like Wal-Mart, the biggest company in the world, still want to improve their sustainability? We recently completed a "mini module" on Sustainability for Students of City University, London.

H&S Home Health & Safety Practices There are free online e-learning materials for the level 2 and level 3 H&SS qualifications, as our contribution to the "Make the Promise" campaign, aimed at reducing the appalling fatalities in farming.
We wish the government would do more to recoginise the problem - such as improving accessability to training and properly funding these H&S learning programmes.
You can use our free programmes, found in the Brochure below, without constraint You can also arrange for us to customise them according to your requirements. Our on-line programmes provide interactive material including surveys and quizes, to which you can also add database functions. Try out these examples. (Data Protection Act - we never divulge your name or other details you may share with us. Your details will not be passed to any third party.)
Surveys

These are developed to gather opinions and provide a snap-shot of current thinking on a variety of topics such as the recent Copenhagen Accord. We will collate and publish the results in next season's Impacts e-letter:
Copenhagen Capers Survey.

Quizes

These are designed as self assessment tools to help the user decide what else needs to be done. The answers link to further support that may be needed.

Sustainable Development Quiz.

Databases

Database collect, store and retrieve data, which can be audited, analysed and reviewed, by dedicated access to clients eg Supermarket suppliers' use of pesticides. Check out free demo:
