Checking Growers Records
It is your responsibility as a supplier to ensure that your growers do not use any of the pesticides from the Co-operative banned and prohibited lists. An agronomist member of your technical team needs to regularly check your growers records. If there are any breaches in applications your agronomist should advise the grower to use alternative pesticides, or to seek a derogation.

2.1.5. Minimisation of Residues.....a qualified agronomist, who is on the BASIS professional register or equivalent, should check pesticide application records of products as legal and appropriate for use. The use of a separate agronomist, e.g. one who works for the supplier not the grower, thus avoiding any conflicts of interest, to check records, acts as positive release to ensure that risk to Co-op Brand integrity is minimised Co-op CoP

Wax/Preservatives (Fresh produce only)
A clear exit strategy for all suppliers of Co-operative brand products must be able to demonstrate the steps that are being taken to eliminate the use of waxes of animal origin (beeswax and shellac) on all fresh produce. Co-operative Group Limited is actively seeking to ban the use of these waxes on all fresh produce, and requires suppliers to advise all production sites to use alternatives where possible.

Derogations
Where there appears to be no alternative than to use a pesticide from the Co-operative prohibited list you must first explore all other options. These will include non-pesticidal alternatives and pesticides from the monitored / no restrictions lists.
Where you have failed to find a suitable alternative you may seek a derogation - only after permission has been granted by Co-operative technical staff may this pesticide by used.
Pesticide Application Records
All pesticide applications must be recorded by suppliers in the database of this Co-operative on-line Pesticide Programme at the level of active ingredient, country of origin and crop.
