Step 4 Risk Assessment Visits
As a supplier the risks to the food we eat, and the integrity of the Co-operative brand is in your control.
Robust risk assessment visits to growers / grower co-operatives / marketing organisations need to be carried out regularly to ensure any risks are identified and minimised.
You will have arranged a schedule of visits whilst completing your annual grower approval documentation in Step 3.
When determining the frequency of these visits several criteria need to be considered including:
Type and volume of crop
Time of year
Country of origin
GlobalGAP / APS status
Growers own audit results
Pesticide changes
Procurement changes
History
If you ask your growers to complete self audit questionnaires, check these for accuracy and reliability during your visits .
Risk of residues
You will need to ensure that your risk assessments establish the frequency of residue testing. Using the criteria above together with historical analysis results and the PRC testing schedule determine what type of test, and how many are undertaken, e.g. specific testing for low risk, multi residue for high and medium risk.
