Industrial Ecology - 2
 
Where ecology is the study of communities of living organisms, industrial ecology is the study of how industrial processes in the environment.

  • product-oriented environmental policy
  • eco-efficiency
  • material and energy flows studies, often called industrial metabolism.
  • life cycle planning, design and assessment

Like ecology, industrial ecology also deals also with communities and thus takes in the social aspects of development.

  • design for communities and the environment
  • extending producer responsibility beyond the factory gate.
  • eco-industrial parks.

    Industrial ecology borrows words from ecology, such as symbiosis, to signify what we need to learn to live sustainably.
