Most countries have experienced uprisings provoked by land takeovers. These tensions will increase as demands on the land increase.

In the UK, there is increased interest with how land in the UK is being used in the light of the Foot and Mouth Diseas(FMD) in 2001. Should the UK continue farming in the same way? Or could farming be more environmentally friendly with rural people paid for non-farming benefits, such as conservation and leisure, as well as good food?
