The
Underlying Principles of Environmental Practice at Work draw
from present good practices in well organised workplaces.
These principles are based on the Declaration of the 3rd Ministerial
Conference on Environment and Health which invites "WHO
and the International Labour Organization to work together
to assist countries in developing processes, involving all
stakeholders, for
implementation of environmental practice which also
promotes public health".
Together
these principles can help people, who have some flexibility
at work, to improve environmental practice that leads to sustainable
development.

The
10 Principles draw on the best practice from Health and Safety,
Environmental Management, Social Partnership and Sustainable
Development.
- Improve environmental performance continuously, using a systematic approach
that links to the best practice of health, safety and quality.
-
The
environment does not stand alone from other parts of an
organisation. The best practices of any organisation should
be included systematically in the environmental improvement
process. Health and safety based on regulation and consultation,
with quality based on team working enable organisations
to develop systematic approaches to better deal with any
environmental challenge
