Economic Sense

If it is obvious that its makes economic sense to make environmental sense, why aren't more companies already eco- efficient ?

Several reasons are heard

  • Most managers want a payback in terms of a few years or even months, whereas people who build power stations expect only a 5-10% payback per year.

  • Many companies have already picked the "low hanging fruit". They seem to need more convincing. Shareholders demands often lead to less profit being made available for reinvestment

Careful and gradual investment of capital, geared to environmental concerns helps the long-term survival of companies.

You may not be in a position to make long term plans. But you may be able to point out:

  • Ways your plan for environmental improvement can save, bring or make money.

  • How a % of saving from environmental projects could go to an environmental fund for future innovations
