Introduction - Implementing new Practices

It will be difficult to change our ingrained attitudes and habits, especially patterns of work.

These patterns of work have developed over many years to maximise the use of labour, not resources.

Resources have generally been undervalued. This is because their real costs to the enivronment have not been included in the market price.

We need to manage
natural resources so
that both now and in
the future we can live
on the yield instead of
depleting the assets

The seven environmental principles can already be seen in other good work practices.
For instance:

  • Quality systems have procedures to address waste through Statistical Process Control.

  • Good Health and safety practices reduce hazards at source.

  • Social partners encourage and enable participation and integration

Your job is to examine these seven environmental principles for ideas of what you, and colleagues, could do to improve environmental protection - and thereby implement better environmental practices.

YOU ARE IN THE BEST PLACE TO KNOW WHAT CAN BE DONE!
