Environmental Practice

Environmental Practices are those work practices that reduce negative impacts, or promote positive impacts, on the environment.

At work, you are in the best position to know what can be done at work and how to carry out environmental practices.

As a start, have a look at the Worst Practice Guide produced by Government Office for the South West. This ‘worst practice’ guide "is intended to help you learn from the mistakes that others have made, so that you can identify and avoid them."

There is a wide range of things you can do. Everything we do impacts on the environment. You traced environmental impacts of your own actions in Unit 1.

Take a number of steps:

1. Look whether your organisation is already implementing any environmental principles.

2. Find out what people are doing elsewhere in terms of good environmental practice

3. Make a plan to implement an environmental practice, that indicates how environmental impacts are affected.

4. Work out how social, technical and economic aspects are taken into account.

5. Then do it!. Put your plan into practice.
