INITIAL REVIEW: Walk around - site and situation
Detailed site inspection should include:
Historical - what was the site used for before - might you have inherited ground pollution from previous activities
Description - urban, sub-urban, rural, water courses (hydrology), grounds (ecology), sloping, flat, etc (geology). These will give you the environmental sensitivities of the area you operate in.
Buildings - start with outside. See the person who looks after the fabric of the buildings - where are drains, foul sewers and run off areas, how old is it, what additions have their been, is it all used. Asbestos, other fabric problems, fencing - security, lighting, plan of pipeworks for gas/utilities etc, delivery areas, problem areas. General impression - run down, waste piled up, overgrown : well looked after, neat tidy grounds, waste sorted and properly stored, appropriate bunds, secure stores - with labels! .....
Buildings inside - heating, ventilation, fumes / odours, dust, spills, noise
Deliveries- both incoming and outgoing
