Targets

The world set Kyoto Protocol Emission Targets

EU Targets and progress (Oct 2006) (Note the use of carbon sinks and kyoto mechanism)

The UK government set legal limits on UK carbon emissions. There will be a 5 yearly budget.

Companies are encouraged to set targets in Environmental Management Systems

CARBON COUNTER
How about helping set targets for your local area/dept/organisation?
We recommend a target of 2.5% reduction-

because..
Have you noticed that the new Climate Change Bill looks remarkably like the ASPO Oil Protocol?
The proposed CO2 annual reduction of around 2.5% is roughly the same as the expected decline in global oil production capacity.

Everybody involved need to see and understand what the milestones of progress are. Everybody needs to feel involved rather than imposed upon.

Targets should be SMART

Specific: People appreciate a clear target - not a muddy one.

Measurable: Use an indicator to measure progress.

Agreed: People are more likely to participate if they agree with the target.

Realistic: - but challenging. Take account of what can be achieved, rather than purely hopeful.

Trackable: track all that contributes to the target.
