Indirect Impacts - 2 Energy Use

The more developed a country gets, the more energy it requires.

The majority of households in developed countries have 1 car, many have 2, and most have many energy-using domestic appliances.

To produce these cars and goods also requires energy; the USA alone consumes about a quarter of the world's commercial energy.

Developing countries use more local energy sources. 50% of the world's population use very little oil, gas or electricity.

How much more does our "developed" energy, often transported half way across the world, cost the environment compared to locally derived energy?

Energy use impacts on the land for reserves and on the air in terms of greenhouse gases, and is responsible for a lot of the pollution at sea.

In depth information on impacts of energy.
