STEP 5 Set Targets

Decide the main priority for each of the possible impacts during and after application. (You may want to look again at the questions to decide which ones you would have prefered to answer differently.)

Set a target for improvement. Make your chosen priority into a target. Your target should state specifically what you plan to achieve.
Be SMART! Make sure your target is:

Specific: People can relate to a target they understand.

Measurable: Measure against your current performance.

Agreed: People will participate if they agree with the target.

Realistic: - Set a challenging, but achievable target.

Trackable: Track all activities that contribute to the target.

Example of 'Pesticide' Target

"Monitor cholinesterase levels of all workers regularly using carbamates or organophosphates, or working with plants sprayed with them, this year."

(HSE Guidance Note MS 17 & DEFRA CoP 4 PPPs p50)
