CONTROLLING RISKS

The long term aim of the Health and Safety for Agriculture/Horticulture level 3 Programme is to provide learning in order to reduce the number of fatalities, serious accidents and ill-health on farms. The farm is the most dangerous place to work in Britian. You have more chance of being killed at work than anywhere else

In the shorter term, the Learning Objectives of this Programme are to

  • Know about the principles of controlling risks to health and safety,
  • Be able to assess risk and
  • Apply the principles of controlling risks to health and safety.

Unit 1 sets out to provide the underpinning knowledge and understanding of the principles of controlling risks at work. The Unit takes you through how people perceive risks, and then spells out the best sorts of controls. This leads into the relevance of carrying out inspections and the importance of setting procedures...bit more

Unit 2 helps you apply this knowledge to the practical circumstances of where you work. By law a competent person is required to carry out a risk assessment, so this is your chance to demonstrate your competence to do that. You will determine what control measures are appropriate and how you can follow good practice standards.

Throughout you will be asked to carry out online tasks - from reading to quizes, interactive games and links to other relevant sources. At the end you will respond to a series of questions and produce a portfolio of evidence...
