Organisation

Any environmental initiatives should take account of existing structures and communication within the establishment.

There are many forms of work organisation. All companies have different cultures and organisation. Some places like to see themselves having just a "boss" and the "workers". Others claim to be "flat" and have an "open door" policy. Most places are more structured with quite complicated sets of procedures. You need to decide what sort of organisation you work in, as this will help determine how you can help changes for environmental improvement to be made

To help you decide what sort of organisation you work in, look to where environmental improvements are likely to develop. They are most likely to develop through quality systems, health and safety, or regular consultation and negotiation procedures.

Each of these have a mixture of voluntary and regulatory, participation and negotiation, and formal and informal features.
