Health and Safety Standards

The Employment NTO has produced two sets of H&S standards. There are NVQ and SVQs at levels 3 and 4 in Occupational Health and Safety Practice.

Level 3 is for people at who work in workplaces where the risks are well controlled, while 4 is for professional health and safety practioners the approved Health and Safety NOSs.

The Employment NTO have also produced a suite of stand-alone approved Health and Safety National Occupational Standards. These allow people to complete a number of units of particular relevance. The units cover all the areas that a good health and safety management system would cover.

These units can be included in other National Vocational Qualifications (N/SVQ) at any level. Awards and qualifications are being developed by a number of Awarding Bodies that are based on these units.

In the original survey for these units, a significant number of people wanted a unit to "cover individual's responsibilities for environment good practice".
