Farm Machinery

Buying new machinery can be one of the biggest investments you make,and the profitability of the business can depend on it doing the right job well, safely, and without adverse effects on health. Although buying personal protective equipment (PPE) represents less of an investment, your health and safety and that of staff can depend on it. Ask staff for their views on new products - they often have detailed knowledge of the way things work or are done which can help you.

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002, the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 1992 (asamended) and the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992, as well as other legislation, require that equipment etc bought for use at work is suitable and will do the task expected of it. TheHealth and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 requires that designers, manufacturers, importers andsuppliers ensure that articles or substances for use atwork are safe and without risks to health. They must also provide information about using the article or substance safely.
