Cars or Bikes

If people have to pay the environmental costs, they might use public transport more, and reduce the damage being done to the environment.

In Britain, vehicle owners only pay 25% of these hidden costs in their yearly 'road tax', and tax on fuel.

The idea of ecological taxation has already been adopted in Germany.

Other transport

The bicycle is fast becoming the best way to move quickly through congested traffic. In less developed countries it is the most affordable way to get around, as a car can cost more than a worker earns in a decade. Globally there are more bikes than cars, and they are 98% cheaper to buy and operate than a car! They use no fossil fuels, produce no pollution or carbon dioxide, and take few resources to make.

A bicycle also requires less energy per passenger, per Km than any other form of transportation, including walking. Where 'cycle lanes' are provided in urban areas cyclists can cover a 5 Km journey faster than a car.
