YOUR SCHOOL IMPACTS
Your impact is both direct, meaning the effect is felt where you are, and also indirect. e.g. When you switch on a light, the illumination will have an impact - on your eyes, while the indirect impact is at the power stations which pollute the water and air, that contributes to global warming. While @ CUL, each of the schools will create similar sorts of impacts - from normal business and office operations. However, there will be specific impacts arising from the activites associated with those schools.

Be the change

Whatever we do has environmental impacts - both positive and negative. However, those environmental impacts usually have social consequences too. Whenever there is a new construction, whether a nuclear power station or windmill, some people will be adversely affected and other others postively affected - usually in the form of jobs. Sustainable development takes into account these social aspects. Environmental improvemnts on their own mean nothing to most people in the world. It is only when they may be directly affeted that they are bothered. Environmental improvements have to demonstrate that they also improve the lives of people for it to be considered "sustainable development".

Social science should increasingly ensure that social concerns are included in environmental impact assessments. 'The environment' includes people and so any environmental improvements should also improve the lives of those who will be affected. This inclusion is essential to demonstrate environmental improvements are also sustainable development.
