ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS

Organsation creates impacts - some positive others negative, on the environment. Many organisations have reduced the direct impacts - such as smoke going into the air. However, the impact is often indirect, meaning it is felt elsewhere: e.g. When you switch on a light it is the Power stations elsewhere that pollute the air.

INDIRECT IMPACTS - FOOD

People eat at work, as well as in-house catering, people often bring in their own food and snacks.

Food now travels further than ever before. Carrots, peas and lettuce once grown in the UK are now flown from the other side of the world - this is called food miles. In the UK our food travels on average 50% further than it did 20years ago.

Organic food seeks to reduce the amount of chemcials going into food production and ensures better standard of welfare for animals.

Food waste, plus all the packaging, now constitues one of the main sources of waste in the UK.
