PERFORMANCE STANDARDS 6 BIODIVERSITY 6. Invasive Alien Species | INVASIVE ALIEN SPECIES Intentional or accidental introduction of alien, or non-native, species of flora and fauna into areas where they are not normally found can be a significant threat to biodiversity. Some alien species can become invasive, spreading rapidly and out-competing native species. eg. rabbits in Australia and Japanese Knotweed in UK. The threat to biodiversity due to invasive alien species is considered second only to that of habitat loss. Do not intentionally introduce any new alien species. Do not deliberately introduce any alien species with a high risk of invasive behaviour. Exercise diligence to prevent accidental or unintended introductions.
