COMMUNITY HEALTH

Production activities, equipment, and infrastructure often bring benefits to communities including employment, services, and opportunities for economic development. However, projects can also increase the potential for community exposure to risks and impacts arising from equipment accidents, structural failures, and releases of hazardous materials .

Communities may also be affected by

  • Impacts on their natural resources,Exposure to diseases, and
  • Use of security personnel.

Avoid or minimise the risks and impacts to community health, safety and security that may arise from company activities. Risks and impacts may be greater if located in conflict and post-conflict areas.

Objectives of PS4

To avoid or minimise risks to and impacts on the health and safety of the local community throughout life cycle from both routine and non-routine circumstances.

To ensure that the safeguarding of personnel and property is carried out in a legitimate manner that avoids or minimises risks to the community’s safety and security.

For each of the ten criteria in PS 2, you use the generic Work Plan (below). First you assess the social aspects, then check out relevant law, set objectives and targets and outline a management programme. You finish an Action Plan to improve Working Conditions....
