Guide to Unit 2 - 7

Activity 2.4 (cont)

Task 2 The second environmental risk assessment will involve your own work aspects of the sort that you identified earlier. Here you put together all your new-found knowledge about aspects, impacts (direct and indirect), risk and significance. Just carry out an environmental risk assessment of your own workplace! And explain why you made the particular assessments. While you are not expected to know all the ins and outs of all the environmental impacts that may arise, you are expected to make a judgment about priorities - based on environmental impacts not cost effectiveness. That comes up in the next task

Task 3 shows how you cannot separate "the environment" from the rest of society. All sorts of other considerations come into the final assessment of "significance" of environmental impacts.

You have to consider image, community concerns and several other social and economic considerations when reaching the final judgment when deciding what is "significant".
