Guide to Unit 2 - 9

Activity 2.6

This technique of transforming values into numbers is the way to help you and your organisation set targets.

Task 1 requires you to set objectives, which are broad aims for your organisation. The objective should be to make environmental improvements that you consider are achievable. Targets make these objectives more specific by setting amounts and times for achieving the objective.

Task 2 uses the targets you have provisionally set. You will need to look for indicators of performance (internal and external) that already exist and which you may be able to make use of. ISO 14031 spells out the what, why and wherefores of indicators and helps companies make and use indicators.

You will use the ISO 14031 classification of indicators to help you either adapt your provisional targets, or help you indicate whether the target is being met.
