PERFORMANCE STANDARD 1 Social and Environmental Management System Social and Environmental Assessment Management Programme | Performance Standard 1. Social and Environmental Management Programme (also corresponds to ISO 14001 4.3.3 & 4) Establish and manage a programme of mitigation and performance improvement measures and actions that address the identified social and environmental risks and impacts. Take into account 1) Relevant findings of the Social and Environmental Assessment 2) Result of consultation with affected communities. Combine operational policies, procedures and practices. The programme may apply across the organisation, or to specific sites, facilities, or processes. Avoid and prevent impacts rather than minimisation, mitigation, or compensation. Where risks and impacts cannot be avoided or prevented, mitigation measures and actions will be identified to comply with applicable laws and regulations, and meets the requirements of Performance Standards2 - 8 (see Action Plan.) Identify measures and actions that are commensurate with the risks and impacts. Define outcomes as measurable events. Use performance indicators, targets, or acceptance criteria that can be tracked over defined time periods. Estimate the resources and responsibilities for implementation. Respond to changes in circumstances, unforeseen events, and the results of monitoring.
