8 CHILD LABOUR

There are an estimated 250 million children under the age of 14 working around the world; 120 million of them work full time. Child labour ranges in severity from light, safe work combined with schooling to hazardous work performed by children and child-bonded labour. According to UNICEF UK,1 in 12 children are forced into child labour

Do not employ children in a manner that is

  • Economically exploitative or
  • Likely to be hazardous or
  • Interferes with the child’s education or
  • Harmful to the child’s health or physical, mental, spiritual, moral, or social development.

Where national laws have provisions for the employment of minors, follow those laws.

Children below the age of 18 years will not be employed in dangerous work.
